Joey with the Mustache’s secrets to a fabulous stay in Fire Island Pines

Sustenance and Libations

“The only thing separating a Fire Island share house from a crack house is dinner.

You can get sustenance for you and your friends in Fire Island through a number of ways, and I’m not going to recommend any of them over the others because the Pines have ears and I’m not about that drama.

  • Located right in the harbor, the Pantry offers everything from a tasty breakfast sandwich and coffee (the cold brew is STRONG!) to fancy imported pastas to your favorite flavor of Swiss Navy. The cookies are well worth the hype and the merch makes a great gift.

  • 1) Go to Instacart.com and make an account
    2) Choose your recommended store (I like Costco and Aldi, but you can get more special things from Stop & Shop and even the Dollar Store!)
    3) If you’re not 100% sure, give Sayville Ferry Service a call (+1 631-589-0810) and see what the boat situation is for groceries that day and ensure that your groceries will get there well before the cutoff.
    4) Place your order on Instacart for:

    [YOUR NAME]
    c/o Sayville Ferry Service
    41 River Road
    Sayville, NY, 11782

    using these delivery instructions:
”Please deliver to 41 River Road (Sayville Ferry Service) and label all bags/boxes with [YOUR NAME] — PINES. Find a Sayville Ferry Service employee and tell them that the groceries are intended for the next boat to Fire Island Pines”

    5) Show up to the dock with plenty of time AND CART(S) to get the groceries from the boat. If you don't have an account with Sayville Ferry service, you'll need to pay with CASH!

WARNING: IF YOU DO NOT GET YOUR GROCERIES OR THE GROCERIES MISS THE CUTOFF, IT’S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO GET THEM OR THEY GET THROWN AWAY.

  • 1) Go to stopandshop.com and fill out an account for delivery to 68 River Road (Coastline Freight).
    2) Make an account with Coastline Freight. Go to their website for updated information on how to do this right! They’re nice folks and respond to emails with questions, etc.
    3) Select your food, set up your delivery time, and you’re good to go!

  • Options vary from time to time, but in the Pines, there's

    • Pines Pizza

    • The Bistro

    • Canteen

    • Deli at Pines Pantry

    • Blue Whale (sometimes)

  • I’m not a huge drinker, but there’s no place I’d rather grab a bottle of bubbly. They even deliver for free and are located right next to the Pantry. Excellent selection, knowledgable staff, and shirts that are very iconic indeed.

  • Fire Island Pines' soft serve shop is fabulous and flavorful. They change up the flavors frequently and IT'S VEGAN!
